悪名高いインジェラ。南アフリカで出会った旅人からは「雑巾の味」と教えられ、響きが怖すぎて1度目のエチオピア滞在では手を出せなかったエチオピアの主食。今回は是非食べようと決めていた。ただ、その前に、僕はビールで幸せ絶頂。違法ですらあるスーダンのアルコール事情を乗り越えた今、一杯めのビールのうまさといったらもう、何ていうか言葉が出ない。これまたエチオピアのビールは結構美味しくて、しかも安くて本当に幸せ。インジェラなんかどうでも良くなってしまったころ、いよいよヨメの元に運ばれてくる。うすくて水っぽいスポンジがぐるぐる巻かれたようなインジェラは、酸味が強いパン。味付けの濃い肉料理なんかを乗せて食べると、これが結構美味しいくて、酸っぱさが逆にちょうどいい。慣れるとこの酸味はクセになる気がする。雑巾食べたことないので噂の真意はわからなかったけれども、この主食、アリかもしれない。
DAY 580 : TRYING INJERA
Injera is a notorious Ethiopian national food. A guy I met in South Africa quoted as taste of damp clothes and scared me away from trying it on my first visit in Ethiopia. So this time, I was ready for it. But before that, I was so happy to be able to drink beer after Sudan where drinking alcohol is prohibited by the law. I was completely out of words with my first sip. Even so that Ethiopian beer is good and cheap. I almost forgot about Injera when the dish arrived at our table. It is a roll of shabby thin spongy sour bread which actually taste ok with salty meat dish, a good match with the sourness. I could find it addictive although wasn't able to figure out if it tasted like damp clothes which I never tasted.
