旅764日目 : エーゲ海のアパート暮らし
イスタンブールから、僕らはバスに乗って西へと向かう。目指す先はトルコ第三の都市、イズミール。エーゲ海沿岸のリゾート地らしく、気候も穏やかで素敵な街なのだそう。そしてすぐ目の前の島々は、もうギリシャ領だ。地図を見て驚いたのだが、エーゲ海にあるトルコ本土近くの島は、ほぼギリシャの領土。第一次世界大戦後にエーゲ海諸島の大半が戦勝国側のギリシャに割譲されたそうで、美しい島と海にもトルコの歴史が垣間見える。旅を進めるにつれ、トルコを含めてこの辺りの歴史を全然知らなかったことを思い知る。勉強不足だと反省しつつ、今まで触れてきた情報は欧米中心のものばかりだったな、なんて、少しハッとしたりもする。さて、7時間ほどバスに揺られた僕らは、イズミール郊外の住宅地に到着した。イスタンブールより気温は少し高く、海沿いなのにカラッとした風が気持ちいい。今日のお宿はヨメが執念で見つけた、海が一望できるアパート。ちなみにairbnbで見つけたのだが、なんと一泊4000円。幸せの予感しかしない。
DAY764 : AEGEAN OCEAN VIEW APARTMENT
We took a buss from Istanbul heading East, to Turkey's third largest city, Izmir which is a very nice resort town by the Aegean Ocean. Across the ocean, we can see the Greek islands. As we looked on the map, surprisingly, almost all the islands in the Aegean Ocean near Turkey belong to Greek. After the first world war, the islands were ceded to the victorious nation, Greek. As we go further, we realize how little we knew about their history. How ignorant, there were so much more other than the western culture. Now, after 7 hours of buss ride, we arrived suburban area outside Izmir. The temperature is a bit higher and the air is nice and dry for a waterfront. My wife found an ocean view apartment via airbnb for 400JPY/1 night. Definitely a good sign.
