エジプトは、ホントに見所が多い。ギザのピラミッドから始まって、北には地中海の都市アレキサンドリア、東には紅海沿いのビーチ、西はサハラ砂漠に内陸を突っ切るナイル沿いの遺跡わんさか。全部行きたいところだけれど、また資金稼ぎに一時帰国することになりそうなので、僕らはナイル沿いに集中する。アスワンへの電車はナイル沿いをひた走る。砂漠の真ん中に流れるこの大きな川岸にだけ、木々が生え畑が続き、人々が住む。その向こうはやっぱり砂漠で、なんだか少し不思議な景色だななんて電車に揺られ、思う。ナイル川が人々にとってどれほど重要か。古代エジプトから、現在までずっと。
DAY 558 : TO ASWAN
There are so much to see in Egypt. The pyramids in Giza, the northern mediterranean city of Alexandria, the eastern beach towns along the Red Sea, the western archeological spots inside the Sahara dessert along the Nile and so forth. We wouldn't be able to afford the rest of the tip if we visit them all, so we decided to go just alongside the Nile. The train to Aswan run along the river all the way through the dessert. Trees grow and people have lives only by the riverside surrounded by nothing but dessert. It looked kind of strange to me while I was looking out through the train window. From the ancient times to the present, the Niles has been inevitable to human lives.
