旅で出会う欧米人たちに、何度もベルリンを勧められた。アートシーンもミュージックシーンも、今ヨーロッパで盛り上がってるのはベルリンなのよん、と。それを是非とも見ておきたくて、シェンゲン協定の期限に焦りつつも、来た道を戻るようにドイツまでやって来た。確かに、街のいたるところの壁がポスターや落書きだらけで、その一つ一つがカッコ良い。かの有名なベルリンの壁もアート作品集のようになっていて、壊れたビルなんかもアーティスティックな落書きで埋まっている。一見すると治安が悪そうにも見えるが、ひと昔前のニューヨークのような勢いも感じる。そこらじゅうで見かける移民の人たちも含めて、人が集まる雑多な雰囲気と勢いのある場所なのかしらとちょっと思った。
DAY650 : CITY OF ENERGY, BERLIN
Berlin was one of the most recommended spots by European and American travelers. They said that the center of the European art and music scene is in Berlin. While our time in Europe was soon coming to an end by the Schengen Agreement, we had to come sort of backward to Germany to witness that. Indeed, the city walls were full of outstanding posters and graffiti. The famous Berlin Wall now is a collection of art works and other places such as collapsed buildings were all covered by graffiti art. I found similarities between Berlin and NYC decades ago, including the rough atmosphere. There were many immigrants of different races which I thought caused the energy of the city.
