素敵だった大晦日から明けて、元旦のプラハ。前日そこら中で街の人が上げていた個人花火も落ち着き、今夜はプラハ市主催の花火大会。モルダウ川の向こう岸で打ち上げられる、プラハ城ごしの花火は相当綺麗だとか。プラハ観光協会のサイトで場所をチェックし、一番よく見えるであろう橋の上に陣取ったのは午後17時半。すでに辺りは真っ暗で、川岸にぎっしり押し寄せた旅行者と-5℃の寒さの中、開始時刻の18時を待った。カメラを構え、人ごみに倒されないよう踏ん張ること30分。何も起こらない。海外だからそういうこともあると待つこと1時間。諦めて帰り出す人が続出。いやいや海外ですからと粘ること2時間。ぎっしりだった橋の上に僕らだけが残った。キンキンに冷えたカメラも僕らも限界で、なんだよプラハと愚痴りながら腹いせにチェコ料理レストランに飛び込んだ。凍りついた体にあったかいグラーシェとホットワインが心底沁みた。生き返った。死ぬほど美味しかった。部屋に戻りネットで調べてみると、なんと今年は全然違う丘の上で行われていたとのこと。youtubeには素敵な花火の映像がアップされていた。僕らが確認したプラハ観光協会の公式サイトを見返してみる。やっぱり書いてあるのは橋の向こうの丘。このサイトの情報が間違っていて、あれだけの人が待ちぼうけになったのだった。やっぱり海外だからしょうがない、とはさすがに思えん。観光協会こんちくしょう。
DAY647 : STILL WAITING FOR FIREWORKS
The first day of the new year in Prague. We heard about the fireworks event on the other side of The Vltava presented by the city of Prague. It is a chance to see beautiful fireworks over the Prague Castle. We checked the location on the official website of Prague tourist association and set things up on the bridge, possibly the best shooting spot 30 minutes before the opening. It was already dark and freezing like -5℃, and the bridge was full of tourists waiting for the event opening which was supposed to be 6PM. I had hold on to the camera in the cloud for 30 minutes, and nothing happened. We waited for another hour thinking it may be a delay while more and more people left. 2 hours later, it was just me, my wife and my camera on the bridge freezing to death. Being so disappointed, we went in the Czech restaurant. Hot soup and hot wine brought us back alive from the cold. I can't even describe how good it was. Back in the hotel room, we found out that the event took place somewhere else. There were videos of beautiful fireworks on Youtube. I double checked the tourist agency's website, it still listed the wrong information that caused so many people stood up by. Should I be, oh well? No way. Fuck the tourist agency.
