エチオピア最終日。アウストラロピテクスの"ルーシー"に会いに、エチオピア国立博物館へ。ビートルズの曲名から名付けられたというこの、318万年の猿人の化石は世界的にも有名らしく、それはぜひとも見ておきたいと博物館へ急いだ。「すべての人類はアフリカの一人の女性にたどり着く」そんな記事を以前ネットで読んだのを覚えていて、それがこのルーシーか！と並べられた骨を前に勝手に興奮しヨメに力説していたのだが、それは「ミトコンドリア イブ」と呼ばれる人類の進化に関しての学説の一つで、全く別物だった。浅い知識は怖い。ともあれ有名なルーシーに感動し、さらにそれより古い猿人の化石"アルディ"もすでに発見されていることに驚き、そしてヨメは並べられた骨に何故か超興奮し、夫婦ふたりとても楽しんだ博物館見学だった。世界中で発見されている人類の化石はやはりアフリカで多く見つかっていて、その中でもエチオピアは特に多い。もしかしたら、人類発祥の場所かもなんて思えてしまう。コーヒー発祥の地とか言われたり、伝統文化がたくさん残っていたり、エチオピア正教もやっぱり独特だし、溶岩むき出しの砂漠やアフリカの屋根と呼ばれる大自然に至るまで本当この国は見所が多く、なんだか深みも感じられて本当に面白い。今回２回目のエチオピア滞在。ビザの延長に一人100ドル必要と言われ泣く泣くこの国から出国することを決めたのだけれど、多分また来てしまう。まだ南部に住む少数民族たちに会えていないし、エチオピア正教の場所ももっと見たいし、ラスタファリズムの地にも行ってみたい。あぁ、もう、エチオピア大好き。
DAY 590 : LUCY THE AUSTRALOPITHECUS
Our last day in Ethiopia. We went to the national museum to see "Lucy" the australopithecus who is a world famous fossilized pithecanthropus from 3,180,000 years ago named after the Beatles' song. There was an article which I read on the internet talking about that all living humans were descended from one specific woman. I was so excited in front of Lucy explaining my wife about the article, completely misunderstanding the theory, Mitochondria Eve had nothing to do with Lucy. What a douche. Anyways, I was impressed by Lucy and Ardi, an even older fossilized pithecanthropus, my wife was so excited about the exhibited bones, just both of us had so much fun at the museum. Much of the human fossils found on earth are from the African continent, especially from Ethiopia. It seemed convincing enough to me that it is an origin of human race. There were more than I expected in this country; the coffee culture, the unique traditions still remained today, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, the rocky lava dessert and the roof of Africa, not just interesting but deep. It was the second stay in Ethiopia of our trip. We only had to leave because of the visa money but there are so much more to see; the southern tribe people, yet more to see about the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, and the Rastafarianism spots, , , I love Ethiopia so much.
