アディスアベバの夜の街へ、エチオピアの伝統的な踊りを見に繰り出す。薄暗い部屋の中で、伝統楽器の生演奏と生歌に合わせて伝統衣装を着た女性たちが、客の前に立ち小刻みに肩を動かし踊る。お客さんも向かい合って踊り、一緒にブルブルブルブルする。歌を歌ってるおじさんはMCも兼ねているようで、即興の歌詞で客をいじったりして爆笑をとっている。ちょっと他で見ない、面白いエチオピアの夜の娯楽。伝統舞踊が見える観光客用レストランかと思ってきてみたら、現地の人が普通に飲み来る場所で少し驚いた。例えて言うなら参加型のディナーショーのような、伝統音楽のライブハウスなような。そんな伝統的なものが、そのまま娯楽として存在するのが、とても興味深い。外資系の会社やお店をみかけなく、街で流れている音楽もアムハラ語の曲ばかりなこの国をみていると、本当独自の文化でそのまま進んでいるなぁとよく思う。アフリカ最古の独立国であり、欧米やイスラムの影響がものすごく強い他のアフリカの国々の中で、なんだか特別な国に思えてきて、エチオピア、ものすごく面白い。
DAY 589 : ETHIOPIAN TRADITIONAL DISCO
We went out to see the Ethiopian traditional dance at night. In a dim light, a couple of ladies in traditional costume were shaking their shoulder to the rhythm and dance in front of the audience along with the live performance by traditional instruments and the vocals. The vocal guy does the MC, making audience laugh hard with his own improvised lyrics. Quite unique Ethiopian night entertainment. Despite my expectation for it to be a touristic restaurant with a stage to show traditional dance, it was a local restaurant with local people eating and drinking. It is interesting how the traditional dance remained as one of the entertainment standards. Their culture is as unique as their lives, without too much foreign capital and music around the town. Among other African counties excessively influenced by Western and Isramic economy and culture, Ethiopia is very special and interesting as it is an oldest independent country in the history of Africa.
