突然お邪魔した、エチオピア結婚式。やっぱ結婚式はどこでも、幸せいっぱいで気持ちがいい。パーティーはまず、新郎さんの実家から始まる。特設の会場に集まった100人近い参列者には、インジェラとおかず、地ビール(かなりローカル味)が振る舞われる。しばらくして男友達に囲まれた新郎が登場し、踊る参列者たちに囲まれてリボンの着いた車に乗り込み、新婦さんの家へと向かう。参列者用にも車が用意されていて、家の前には何十台も車が用意されている。踊りながら皆で車に乗り込み、歌いながら移動する。お邪魔させていただいたご夫婦はご近所さん同士だったようで、街中を列をなして走ったのち、最初の会場の２軒隣の家に戻ってきた。そして車を降りたみんなは、踊りながら新婦の実家へと入っていく。僕らはここでお暇したのだが、この後さらに、別の会場で盛大なパーティーがあるそうだ。厳かというよりは激しくて、セレモニーというよりはお祭りだったけれど、こっちまで幸せな気分になる結婚式だった。ちなみに式にかかるお金はすべて新郎新婦と親族が出すそうで、借金してまで開催する場合もあるとか。タダ飯を狙って来た無関係な人たちと揉めてたりと、結婚式をやるのはどこも大変なんだなと、自分の時を思い出してしみじみ思う。
DAY 582 : ETHIOPIAN WEDDING
An unexpectedly invited wedding party in Ethiopia. Wedding ceremonies are always full of love and hospitality. The day started at the groom's home. They welcome almost 100 guests with injera, some side dishes and local beer. After a while, the groom in the center of a circle of his male friends appeared and got in the ribbon ornamented car in order to go to the bride's house followed by many other vans prepared for the guests, while everyone dance and sing along the way. All the vehicle ran around the town in line and came back to two houses apart from where they started, it turned out that the marrying couple were neighbors. Everyone except us kept dancing and went inside the bride's house. I was told that they will move on to the next place for another big ceremony. It seemed rather passionate than solemn, and festival than ceremony but made everyone happy. FYI, the wedding expense is normaly paid by the couple and the families and in some cases they even owe money for it. While looking at a fight between the family and the total stranger who came for free food, it reminded me of mine in a way that wedding ceremony is such a pain in the neck.
