ゴンダールはエチオピアの旧首都。街には遺跡が残り、中心部にある１７世紀の古城群は世界遺産だったりもする。ヨーロッパのそれに比べると簡素で迫力には欠けるけれども、それがむしろファミコン時代のドラクエっぽくて良い。少し前まで周りの一般の家々は茅葺の家だったと言うから、これでもたいそう豪華な存在だったのだろうと妄想する。城から30分ほど歩いた、古い教会にも行ってみた。石と木でできた小ぶりな教会は内部は、なんか異世界。たいへんシュールな壁画が壁から天井までびっしりで、気持ち悪いぐらい不思議な雰囲気がある。さすがアフリカっぽく、壁画にはライオンが描かれていたり、天井ビッシリの天使の頭はアフロだったり、エチオピア正教おもしろい。
DAY 581 : AFRO ANGELS AND THE WORLD HERITAGE
Gondar is the old capital of Ethiopia. There are remains inside the city, including the world heritage ancient castles from the 17th century in the central part. They are less impressive compared to those in Europe but I like the feel of 8-bit Nintendo games. The houses had thatched roofs just a while ago which make them look even more extravagant, I imagine. We also stopped by at the old church about 30 minutes walk away from the castle. Inside the small building made of stones and woods was a totally different world filled with surrealistic wall paints on the ceiling and the walls, kind of creepy and weird. Quite unique as African, there are lions and angels with afro hairs in the paintings. How interesting.
