毎日カオスなチズムル島。「ムズング！ギブミーピキシャ！」という言葉を滞在中に1000回ぐらい聞いた気がする。「ムズング」はこの辺り一帯の国々で使われる外国人の意。「ギブミーピキシャ」はエンドレスにオレの写真を撮って撮りまくってくれということの意。島を歩いていると、いや、歩かずにホテルに居る時でも、どこからか、そう叫ぶ子どもたちの声が聞こえてくる。撮っても撮らなくても、その言葉が合図になっているかのごとく、どんどんとガキンチョは増えていき、そしてエンドレスに着いてくる。こんな場所は初めてだ。一昔前と違い、昨今の世界中の人々は、完全にカメラ慣れしていて、写真を撮ってくれなんて囲まれることほとんどない。アフリカでも中南米でも、勝手に撮ったら怒られることよくある。が、この島は、子どもにも大人にも撮りたくなくても撮らされる(笑。そして何処から来たんだ、と会話が始まる。要は、あったかい。
DAY 491 : Kids in Chizumulu island
Life in Chizumulu island is a chaos. I heard "Mzungu! Give me picture!" like 1000 times. The word "mzungu" was commonly used among neighbor countries as foreigner. "Give me picture" means "Take more picture of me". As I take a walk, or even stay at the hotel, I hear some kids say the words. One after another, the crowd just gets bigger and bigger no matter what I do and they follow after us forever. There is no such a place on earth. Unlike back in the days, people are so used to camera nowadays and hardly ever ask anyone to take pictures of them. In Africa or South America, taking photos without permission often got me in trouble. However in this island, regardless of their age, people make us take their pictures and start a conversation. In other words, they are very warm.
