島にはバオバブがたくさん生えている。小さな島に樹齢うん百年の巨木が並んでいるのが、なんかいいなぁと思う。本当に小さいこの島で薪は結構貴重で、現地の物価に比べてやっぱり高い。本土やモザンピーク側から買ってきたり、山の頂上にある小さな森から切ってきたりしているそう。あとは、島全体で栽培しまくっているキャッサバの茎も、薪に使うのだそうだ。そんな島で、切ったら燃やしがいのありそうなバオバブが、切られずに未だ残っているのは、大事にされていたのかしらなんて勝手に想像して、やっぱなんかいい。ちなみに、映像の中でこの湖は標高1500mと僕言いましたが、真っ赤な嘘でしたごめんなさい。正しくは、500m。
There are many baobab trees on the island. It feels nice to see hundreds of years old giant trees in such a small island. Since the island is very tiny, firewoods are valuable and relatively pricy.
