沖に向かって真っ直ぐ伸びる、黒い人だかり。アパルトヘイト時代、南アビーチには黒人専用、白人専用と人種で遊泳区域がハッキリと分かれていたそうな。同様に住む区域もキッチリと分けられていて、その名残は今もバッチリ残り、旅中にたくさん見ることが出来た。と、いうことはこのビーチでの不思議な人だかり、この一直線上のラインしか彼らは海に入れないというアパルトヘイトの名残があるのか！と思ったけれど、どうやらそんなことは無いようで、ただ遊泳禁止区域との分け方が変なだけだった。クリスマスシーズンが近づいてきたダーバンのダウンタウンは黒人居住者が多く、このビーチのように賑やかで、そしてちょっと治安が悪い。アフリカは色々と考えさせられる。
A crowd of black people in line straight towards horizon. During the apartheid era in South Africa, the beach was segregated between white and black. Likewise, the residential area had distinct border which remain obvious until these days. The straight black line seemed to me like a restricted swimming area for them as relic of apartheid but it wasn't. The town of Durban in the christmas season is full of black immigrants. It is busy like the beach and a bit less safe. I am often contemplating in Africa.
