ビクトリアフォールズという名のジンバブエのこの街は、滝の横の小さな観光地。その周りは国立公園になっていて、街の外れまでは歩いてすぐ。そこから先は、普通に野生動物がワンサカいるんだそうな。街中の家の屋根にもバブーンが徘徊し、イボイノシシの親子が道を渡る。さすがアフリカと関心しながら、僕らは早朝の散歩。この森を横切って、ゾウたちが滝の上流に水を浴びにくるという話を聞きつけ、自力で行っていいのかわからないけど行ってみる。森に入ればでっかいシカいるは、いろんなサルいるはで、街から気軽に徒歩で行くこの散歩、車やツアーでしか行けないサファリとは違うスリルが味わえる。残念ながら骨になったゾウしか出会えなかったけれど、これはかなり楽しい。明日も再チャレンジする！
We are in a small tourist town right next to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. It is surrounded by a national park where we can meet a bunch of wild animals. Even in the town, there are baboons crawling on the roofs and desert warthogs crossing streets with their children. We took a walk early in the morning impressed, towards a spot above the fall where we heard that wild elephants gather for bathing. It was quite thrilling walking across the forest with huge deers and all kinds of apes right by us contrary to safari tour by automobiles. Unfortunately all we found was their bones, as a matter of fact, it really was exciting and fun. We are coming back tomorrow!
